Drive kits arrived safely, I am able to confirm that standard internal AMIGA 2000 disk drives fits these cases correctly, even the eject button lines up correctly. The eject button is a little too short to poke far enough through the front panel so I added in a small metal bracket to enable it to do so, hence no need to cut any of the front up of these cases. I did have the other PC drive mentioned in your auction and can say that it would require substantial modification of the 1581 case to accept it. I tried several other PC drives as well, all the same result. The AMIGA 2000 disk drive is the way to go if you don't want to have to butcher the 1581 case.

Hi, I have tried to find information on how to modify a PC drive mechanism to work in a 1581 drive kit with no luck. I have a Panasonic JU256-xxx, a Samsung, Sony and a TEAC drives. Any help would be great.

look for instructions on how to use a pc mech in an amiga ... since the 1581 and the amiga drives are the same, the process should be the same too

That is a bummer. The guy who bought the kit was probably under the impression any 3 1/2 drive from a PC would work. That is a lot of soldering to make an interface cable for it. Here is a 3 1/2 external Amiga Drive you probably could rip the 3 1/2 inch drive out off. Hope it works. Ok all you retro-hackers. Here is another way to make money. I see a lot of 1581 kits floating around with no drive mechinisms. How about making a board/case that would adapted a PC Floppy (3 1/2 inch), which we know there are almost unlimited amount of at this time, to make it compatible with the 1581 kits. Reason I said case, is that the drives (not the case) look to be different dementions. If someone made a case/mother board in which all I had to do is get a PC 3 1/2 inch floppy and it cost around ~$40 or so, I wouldn't mind buying a couple.

There are a lot of Amiga 500 drives on ebay that work with the 1581 kit without any mod. I used a 720k drive from my old Archimedes 3000, it worked without problems, except I had to build a 'custom eject button'... Chris
