So... the year of 2006 is soon nearing its end. I started rrforum a bit less than a year ago because I lacked an international forum for Retro Replay related development. And so far I'm more than satisfied with the results. But quickly you guys made me realize that there where other devices that needed a place in the forum, so along came the MMC64 and the genereal ROM hacking section for instance. But these days seem to be the days of hardware forging...

Both professional and high quality homebrewn hardware is popping up from everywhere. There is the Individual Computersline ofcourse which also carries the MP3 player and Silversurfer, and the Josef Soucek line with IDE64 and a bunch of other peculiar hardware :) And there is more hardware in the works in the basements around the globe, such as the upcoming SSv5 cart. And what about TFE, does anyone know the status of this one?

Ofcourse there's a lot of hardware projects that may not require immediate software development to be useful (such as the RR/RR-net/MMC64) but still are lacking an international forum. I'm talking about, for instance 1541-III, the 1581-Clone and all the smaller hacks and modifications, such as the Burst Fastloader Mod for C64 (which is now supported by the MMC64 D81 writer btw), the lesser known CIA-IDE harddrive project, the +60k Expansion using a SIMM memory module.... there are of course many many more...

Let's not begin with the C64 DTV (which has its own forum already btw) and the C/One.

Ok, ok.. stop me before I'm spacing out completely (hmm.. wonder what was in that herbal tea). To get to the point, do we need more support for other hardware? I'm firstly thinking of IDE64 V4 (since it will have a clockport) and the upcoming SSv5, but any other hardware is welcome. Or is there anything else that should be changed about the forum? It's been running for a year soon, and it's working but I've got some ideas on some additions but want to hear your oppinions first. Also, since the name rrforum is a bit misleading, I'm thinking about changing the name to perhaps Retrohackers or something.... suggestions are welcome :)

So what's the point of all this nonsens? Just to make you think a little where you want this ship to go in 2007, and ideally, share some of your ideas. Sounds too hard? Didn't think so really.

The phonelines are open......... :D

Expansion is good :)

When I make my rounds of C= fourms I always look here, lemon, comp.sys.cbm., Petscii, C128Alive, & Forum-64.

They all have bits & pieces about hacking/programming the above products mentioned but not really in one specific forum. Except for Forum-64 but I have to bust out a translator for that site.

That is why I come here. This board has everthing sectioned off which is a good thing. If you add forums for the products mentioned above I think that is a great idea.

I cann't wait to get the new SS v5, 1541-III, and IDE64.

Plus, I heard from a little mouse that some new stuff might be coming out from Individual Computers. :D

retrohackers .org, .net, .info, .whatever all seem to be available, so go buy one before your neighbour! or just use ath.cx ;-)

I like the name, since it sort of encompasses what this is all about and it leaves room for expansions.

I'd very much like to see this as a gathering ground for all hardware related projects and their software.
The precreation of certain forums might help speed up the interrest too.

Thanks for the confidence in future rrforum! :)

I agree with the thought of a gathering ground. But at the same time I'm a bit afraid of going too wide (the words organic growth comes to mind). I definitly think I want to keep it within the Commodore domain. And since I'm a so called scener myself, I'd like it to be aimed towards the scene as much as possible, but still everybody should feel welcome. Pretty much how it is today in other words...

So, without going too far, what other "platforms" are interesting for the future retro hackers (that means us)? We've already mentioned IDE64v4 and the new SSv6 cart. The upcoming (E)TFE is very interesting although AFAIK it programs almost the same as RR-net (same chip).... What others?

Not to mention IDE64 plugin which is in works :)

On topic: I would encourage talk about all devices in the general forum, and then see if some of them generate enough posts to have their own subforum.
