First thanks for all the feedback, and special thanks to Ebster for his extensive tests. Great work! Please note that some of the IDE fixed games have messed up filenames. Take 'Alien Storm' for example. All files end with a comma, remove it and the game works fine on mmc.

Oh, and it's update time again: if you have a spare memory card please test the new release. It has save and scratch as an experimental new feature.

Please note: I replaced the complete mmc routines this evening without much testing. The code works for me now, but I'm quite sure that it will mess up your memory card as I'm quite pissed already. :) So please be careful, use a spare card or backup your files at least. However, thanks for testing! :)

Uhm, just forgot the other changes:
  • Loading blocks is protected by crc16 now. This means loading with sprites on will just produce a load error instead of messed up data. Maybe it's interesting to turn this into multi retries.
  • Loading flickers the border. This seems to be just annoying in the first point, but I hope it will prove it's use for the testers.
  • Speeded up the mapping switcher a bit. I hope this is still ok for all setups. I just remember the problems with DreaMonRR...

Ok, no retries after a crc error is quite stupid, but what's much worse: it broke castle of jasoom. ;)

Please grab the update here: http://rrforum.ath.cx/viewtopic.php?p=654#654

The new version retries 256 times after a crc error before giving up. If this happens, something is seriously wrong, so the loader stops with a flickering border.

hi there,

thanks for the warm welcome!

screen flashing while loading is cool. i like it very much for testing purpose because you actually see if there is something happening or not.

i tested highscore saving only in world games - screen was flashing while trying to save but nothing was saved... i´ll have some more tries.

greetings from hanau/germany!

I tried to scratch several files on al dfi from BASIC with the command
Code:
open1,8,15,"s:file1":close1

For the first file, this worked.

But when I tried to scratch a second file, I got an "file open error".

It only worked when I took another channel number (2). But also this channel stayed open after using.

Just a quick feedback:

Everything works like a breeze here on my C128D-CR (the one with the metal case). Thanks so much, Doc Bacardi, you rocked my weekend (and will rock probably many more!) :)

I also tried it on my flat C64 with an old board with 6581 inside, but there all the sprites in the 10 or so games I've tried were completely messed up. The programs worked, though, i.e. I could hear the sound, and if I pressed the button the "game" started and I could move those ugly blotches which once were sprites around as normal. I read about some sprite problems somewhere else, if I can assist in running debug code or something, let me know.

But take note that this old 64 is somehow damaged anyway, it can't load from the 1541 anymore (I've tracked it down to a broken 7406, but haven't found time to replace it yet). Of course the sprite bugs could be related to this.

Cheers!

Uh, this should not happen. Either the plugin still has some loading problems, or your 7406 ruined it. Did the same files run fine on your C128 and did you use the same memory card?

Another version, this time with better save support:

  • Fixed 'close' bug, thanks to Kratznagel for reporting
  • $ and scratch command now respect patterns and filetype selection (e.g. '$a*=p' now works).
  • Load/Save accepts drivenumber and filetype
  • reading and writing to files with something like ',s,w'

Now you can copy files from disk to the mmc and scratch them there. What fun! ;)

Please try the fcopy.dfi!

Yup, I tried the same files (more or less, the games from my youth that I liked back then), and it was on the same unmodified memory card, just some 10 minutes later. But that's probably just the broken 64 then (may be more than just a broken 7406).

Cheers,
Steppe

Hi,

The DFI plugin works great in kernal mode with my Retro Replay on my 1982 C64, but it doesn't work on my 1991 C64C.

To test everything else appears ok, I just tried loading the DFI version of Sly Spy on the C64C, and that works fine. The new D64 mounter behaves the same (works on my old C64, not on the new one). So it seems to be something to do with how the MMC64 interfaces with the RR.

I already told tnt/beyond force about it for his plugin, but thought I should mention it here too.

I should also mention that I just installed a SID2SID in my C64C (http://www.prophet64.com/), is it possible that that could have anything to do with it? I can't remember if I tested the DFI plugin in my C64C before installation!

Ed

Edit: When I press K for kernal mode, I get a blank blue screen with "READY" at the top.
