I have been wanted to develop on the c64 for some time (not cross-asm on my big noisy pc!) so i'm looking for a good setup..

So far the RR with TASS in the rom sounds neat, but where do i store my souce files then? (a new flash based storage would be preffered, as i only have a tape drive for my system) Funny enough i have'nt been able to find any info on writing to the MMC64 from the c64 itself? Only handling of .d64 images for playing games seems to be the topic.

So, if i use RR+TASS to code, what is a good way to store/handle all my source/gfx data? Can i use the MMC64 as a "normal" storage device, and use the kernal file routines to access it?

i can't tell you much about the MMC64 since i don't have one but AFAIK it is not suitable for storing single files from within applications such as TASS (please correct me if i am wrong)
Why don't you get hold of a good ol' 1541 and a few 5.25" disks...??! they are great for using with c64

As you are willing to sacrifice 1541 compatibilty anyway, you might want to consider 1581.

(I personally wouldn't go back to developing on C64, it's so much easier to have tons of memory and gazillion megahurts. I do test mainly on real C64 tho)

You're right, you can't save files with the MMC64.

I'd say get a cheap 1541 and some disks! It's fast enough for loading and saving sources. Especially those TASS versions using the RR fast loader, hehe.

If you want to stay 100% PC-free I'd say pretty much any C= compatible disk drive. The 1541 is ofcourse the most versatile and safe way to go. Especially if you plan to work with other C= generated data, such as graphics, music, etc. since many programs may have problems with non-1541 drives.

I'm sorry, but that's just complete BS. Compatibility is an entirely different issue and you are right there, but by far the 1571 is the most versatile. It can do both sides, burst mode and even MFM.
